My First Solo Backpacking Adventure
I completed my first solo backpacking trip! The goal was to compete all 26 miles of the Pinchot Trail of the Pinchot (Lackawanna) State Forest in a couple of days. Of course part of attraction was being steeped in the essence of the outdoors, but I was also eager to practice my bushcraft and log my first solo excursion. Backyard Camping
Does anyone remember the Gorn from Star Trek? Fighting a nasty cold, that’s exactly what Jill sounded like this week. In both of our interests, I decided to “camp” outside in the backyard the last few nights. While I was motivated by a peaceful night sleep for both of us, I can’t say that I wasn’t excited about sleeping in my new hammock some more before hitting the trail next week. Without a chance of rain, I excitedly set up my hammock in our woodlot, anticipating a comfy night’s rest. The first two nights were rather interesting. Here, I will share my experience backyard camping.

Defining one’s values can help us understand ourselves within this field of study and help us understand others. Values allow us to understand what is important.
Rainy day project: a guitar stand
I’ve been meaning to make a stand to get my guitar off the ground and a rainy afternoon was the perfect time to build this project. This piece reminds me of a gun rack, relegated to fishing pole holder, that I made in wood-shop class of my middle school years. They share many of the same design elements and both are simple, yet purposeful projects. Moreover, I’m hoping to renew my interest in learning how to play this instrument. Occasionally, I’ve picked up this guitar and played a tune, but I have yet to learn a song.
